One thing I found hard since embarking on my low waste journey was buying sustainable gifts! It no longer felt right to buy a cheap plastic toy, or something without purpose knowing that it would be played with for such a short time before being forgotten about and ending up in the bin.
Have you ever stopped to think about how much waste you produce each month during your menstrual cycle? You are looking at around 12000 pads/tampons per person. Most of which contains plastic, not only in their packaging but also in the product itself. That is roughly 120kg of bloody waste sitting in our landfills or floating in our oceans.
Up until now we have been living in a disposable world which has been having catastrophic impacts on our Eco-systems and Global Warming. Our increasingly busy lifestyle means we are choosing convenience which inevitably comes packaged, usually in single use plastic. I too have fallen victim to the convenience of on the go snacks and food.
I recently had a chat with the lovely Ashley Winning, my friend and Boss Mumma at The Motherhood Circle. Ashley contacted me many months ago and asked if I would be willing to do a video chat with her and I freaked out. I was so nervous at the idea of being on camera that I couldn't go ahead with it but I promised that I would work on my confidence and here we are!
I always knew I wanted 2 children and I wanted them to be more than 2 years apart. I wanted to be able to spend quality time with my first child, learning about them and giving them my 100% attention. I wanted to feel like the newborn experience with my second child was new and exciting rather than having only just experienced it with my first, especially knowing I would likely only have 2 babies. I didn’t want it over and done too quickly.
Most of us Mum’s know the feeling when you’re sitting on the couch looking around the house at all the things that need to be done but feeling so overwhelmed that you have no idea where to start.
I started my Low Waste journey about around a year ago after watching a series of eye opening documentaries showing the impact that our wasteful habits are having on the environment, in particular the impact of single use plastics.
